Atlanta, GA — September 2025 will forever be remembered as a historic moment in Georgia. For the first time, alopecia, lupus, and cancer were officially recognized at the state level, thanks to the tireless advocacy of Alopecian Beauty Co., led by its founder and president, Monée E.M. Sanders.

At the Georgia State Capitol, lawmakers, advocates, and families stood shoulder to shoulder as a resolution declared September as Alopecia Awareness Month in the state of Georgia. It was more than a proclamation—it was a promise. A promise to see, support, and uplift individuals battling conditions that too often remain hidden in silence.

“Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed people to change the world. In fact, it’s the only thing that ever has.” — shared by Alopecian Beauty Co.’s CFO, echoing Margaret Mead

The organization’s vision is bold yet rooted in urgency: to raise $1 million to establish Georgia’s first dedicated medical center serving individuals affected by alopecia, lupus, and cancer. This center will provide not only treatment and education but also emotional and psychological support for families navigating the daily realities of autoimmune conditions.

The Annual Alopecian Beauty Co. Gala, which followed the State Capitol recognition, was a living example of why this work matters. The evening blended advocacy, storytelling, and celebration, spotlighting the voices of those directly impacted.

One testimony came from a client who called her stylist in the middle of the night on the brink of suicide because of her struggle with alopecia. That moment was a sobering reminder that this fight isn’t just about hair—it’s about mental health, emotional well-being, dignity, and survival.

Children and families were also centered. Jeff Paul Torbet, founder of the Children’s Alopecia Project, spoke about his mission to ensure kids know they are enough, even without hair:

“I don’t care about yesterday when they had hair. I don’t care about tomorrow if it grows back. I care about today—and making sure they feel confident in who they are right now.”

The evening featured surprise honors, awards, and emotional letters of support—including from Support Her, a partner nonprofit. The presence of high-profile advocates like Amy McClure and the McClure Twins amplified the night’s message: visibility matters, and representation heals.

A Personal Note: Why This Work Matters to Me

As a journalist and the founder of Auesomely You Magazine, I don’t just report on alopecia—I live with it. From the teasing I endured as a young girl because of my bald spots, to the journey of learning to love myself fully, alopecia has been a part of my story. For years, I carried quiet shame, trying to cover up what made me different.

Standing in spaces like the State Capitol and the Alopecian Beauty Co. Gala reminds me why advocacy matters: because no child, no woman, no man should ever feel less than whole because of hair loss. What Moné Sanders and her team are building is bigger than awareness—it’s about restoring dignity, amplifying visibility, and creating a legacy of healing.

At Auesomely You Magazine, our Disease Awareness Pillar exists for moments exactly like this. Because advocacy isn’t just about recognition—it’s about resources, equity, and giving families hope for a better tomorrow.

“This is not just a movement. It’s a blueprint for sustainable change.” — Alopecian Beauty Co.
